About this work:
Fantasy for Piano (or Fantasia for Piano). An earlier student work (c. 1968) written under Thomas Beversdorf. He worked with me extensively on this work, trying to get me out of academia and into a richer timbral environment. In the revisions done after the first student perrformance by Carol Stone, a student at Indiana University, you can see more timbral interest and a turning away from Hindemith and toward more flair and gesture. This is the revised version, done on the same doctoral recital as above, performed by Gary Smart, who later was faculty at Univ. of Wyoming-Laramie. It was subsequently performed by Robert Hamilton at the Indiana University, South Bend. The first work of mine that I still stand behind enthusiastically.
Premiered at IU Bloomington by Carol Stone in 1967. Performed in its revised version in 7/13/71 on doctoral recital at IU by Gary Smart. Subsequently performed by Robert Hamilton at IUSB.
