About this work:
E-Chi for electric viola and 4 percussionists “Chi” is the flow of electromagnetic energy throughout the universe. Feng Shui (literally “wind-water”) reflects the way in which chi energy flows. The role of Feng Shui is to balance one’s beingness with their surroundings in such a way as to allow the most natural flow of chi energy. The musical content of e-Chi, as our individual chi energy, is constantly circulating with other chi energies, sometimes complimenting, sometimes clashing, adjusting for rhythmic, harmonic and sonic matter, but always seeking a balance. E-Chi is in five movements, corresponding to the five elements of Feng Shui: I Earth II Metal III Water IV Tree V Fire E-Chi is written for Amy Lynn Barber and the Percussion Plus Project of DePauw University and is dedicated to John Duffy.
