About this work:
A setting of a passage from the Song of Songs, I Sleep is a dream sequence in which the beloved is surprised by the nocturnal arrival of her beloved, and then distraught by his sudden departure. The text is rich with suggestion and goes through a wide emotional arc. The music mirrors that by employing a variety of styles - dreamy harmonic accompaniment, driving odd meter bass lines, singing, speaking and large, emotional glissandi.
