About this work:
The solo trumpeter in "Trumpet Journey One" tells a dramatic story. The opening earnestly tells of something troubling. In the middle he moves behind the string orchestra to play ancient horn calls that echo in the mountains, then a beautiful, heartfelt melody unfolds. The soloist returns to the front of the stage for the finale which expresses renewed hope and final triumph.
Written for Dennis Najoom, co-principal trumpet of the Milwaukee Symphony, the piece reflects Najoom's Lebanese and American heritage.
