Celebration XIII

Chris Owenby

About this work:
August 13, 2010, was a special day for my wife and I, for it was on this day that our daughter, Abigail Elizabeth, came into the world. It is made even more special because the two of us (Abigail and myself) celebrate our births on the same day. Thus, I chose to title this piece Celebration XIII. Celebration XIII is a six-minute work for wind ensemble based loosely on sonata-form. Heavily syncopated rhythms and scalar figures pervade the music, providing energy and momentum from start to finish. It is my hope that the audience member will revisit and meditate upon a particular moment of joy from his or her own life while listening to this piece.
