Fantasia for piano

Thomas Joseph

About this work:

Fantasia for piano employs an extensive range of piano techniques and colors. This work is also my first experiment in regards to free-form composition. My other instrumental works are written in traditional forms such as sonata, rondo-sonata, variations, fugue, etc. By contrast, in Fantasia, I strived to design my own unique form suited to the dramatic and improvisatory spirit of the piece. The composition exploits a number of advance piano techniques including performance in the extremities of ranges and registers, polyphonic texturing, intense dynamic contrasts, fugal counterpoint, and other advanced means of development and expression.
