Passage Through the City

Stephen Gorbos

About this work:

Passage through the city is a piece that attempts to map out a modern urban experience. Written in reaction to time spent traversing Chicago’s storied neighborhoods, I hope it reflects the layers of architecture and cultural one encounters in Chicago. The piece could be interpreted as one individual’s subjective passage through a modern city, with the word passage standing for a path navigated, the act of going from one place to another, or even the right to come, go, or pass through some particular place.

Chicagomusic.org gave a nice review of the premiere by the Spektral Quartet at The Hideout in June 2013.
