Prelude and Elegy

Brian Fennelly

About this work:

Prelude and Elegy is a fairly virtuosic work first premiered and recorded by the Empire Brass Quintet, their very first LP recording. The short brash prelude is an ensemble fanfare. The quieter Elegy was written in response to the postpartum suicide of a young Swedish neighbor. The work has also been by student ensembles, such as at the New England Conservatory. The original manuscript of Prelude and Elegy was first published in the SCI Journal of Music Scores. The revised score is computer-printed and available from American Composers Alliance.
