Building Music
Ned McGowan
About this work:
Building Music is partly inspired by Georgi Ligeti's Poème Symphonique for 100 metronomes all playing at the same time. During the piece, each musician (except for voice) has their own tempo and performs his or her notes by following an electronic metronome on their stand (on silent mode).
Building Music is accompanied by photos and video of the building of The Rotterdam on the Wilhelminapier in Rotterdam, which was completed in 2013. Photography by Ruud Sies and Time Lapse Video by Paul Martens.
Performance by the David Kweksilber Big Band, with vocalist Jennifer van der Hart.
