Program notes: Keith Jarrett has been on my list of geniuses for decades!!! I love his trio playing all the great jazz standards, but what I really love are the recordings of his solo piano work: the monumental six-CD box set, Sun Bear Concerts; the phenomenal clavichord set, Book of Ways; and the solo work in the Bremen/Lausanne set!!!
So, when Irina Muresanu of the Boston Trio told me she would love it if I wrote a new piano trio for her group, I immediately thought that a Keith Jarrett tribute would be an inspiring idea.
