About this work:
Pastorale was inspired by images of sunlight illuminating the landscape on a warm afternoon, images that imply a blending of vitality and peacefulness underlaid with loveliness and order. These images are reflected in music that varies from very calm to joyfully active. The music is organized in three main sections. The second section expands on some of the gestures from the first. The third section includes a varied reprise of a large portion of the first section plus a new coda.
