I composed Parting for Baroque lutenist Will Tocaben in the summer of 2013. At that time it seemed that everywhere I turned, I saw relationships falling apart and close and distant friends going through breakups. I wanted to write a reflective piece expressing the sense of being pulled back and forth, the feeling of loss and uncertainty, with the final release and acceptance.
