About this work:
Traumstücke was composed for viola d'amore player Gertrud Schmidt, for a recital of music for the instrument mentioned in Thomas Mann's novel "Doktor Faustus." When writing this, I pretended I was transcribing music from a long lost manuscript by the novel's protagonist, Adrian Leverkühn. A student piece, composed for his friend Serenus Zietblom, recently discovered hidden in a trunk in the attic of Serenus Zietblom's childhood home.
