About this work:
The music sets a poem by the Jewish Ukrainian poet Paul Celan, an elegy to his mother who was murdered by the Nazis. Celan survived the war, but never recovering from depression, took his own life in 1970.
As Ukraine suffers through another similar era of violence by an oppressor, the poem seemed to be an appropriate addition to my Music for Ukraine series.
