String Quartet No. 2

Adam Silverman

About this work:
String Quartet No. 2, 30 minutes. Set in five movements, this work is an expansion of the duet "Eleven Delaware Exits Between Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania." It uses a dense counterpoint in all parts, overlapping simple gestures to create a web of equally important lines. These must be carefully balanced by the performers to achieve the desired effect - a delicate texture with long melodies passed from one instrument to the next. Movement four of this work was premiered in 2000 at the Tanglewood Music Center, and the complete work will be premiered in Winter 2003 at the Yale School of Music.
