About this work:
A set of four piano pieces composed when my daughter Allegra was a little over a year old, Infant Vocalises takes its inspiration from her vivid pre-verbal expressions. From these highly expressive sounds, I tried to imagine her inner state, and in these pieces, explore various moosd or activities. The four pieces, titled Morning Song, Growler, Va Va Va, and The Coo of Amaze, trace a toddlers daily journey from awakening to playing to demanding and then back ineffably to sleep and pre-verbal dream.
