About this work:
From Whence Butterflies? is a fantasy for piano and tape and one of a series of six similar works. The composition's title is taken by permission from a haiku by Joy Shieman of Los Altos, California. It is also one of five Shieman haiku set by Reid in a song cycle entitled Tear on a Child's Cheek. The entire seventeen syllable text is: From whence butterflies? Thirteen years descends the stairs in long yellow gown. The realization employs Yamaha TX series synthesis modules.
