Celebration in Sound and Space

About this work:
Primitive sound materials and a spirit of improvised euphoria combine to create a "celebration" of the sounds themselvs within the space in which they resound. The freedom from conscious restraint and the sustained frenzy of the piece produce a certain musical agitation. The work is created by the simultaneous performance of two tapes at varied time intervals. This rendition represents only one possible realization of Celebration in Sound and Space.
This work was the last in a series of studies exploring the capabilities of the first generation of small analog synthesizers. It was composed on an ARP 2600 synthesizer, which is monophonic, producing only a single sound event at a time. The piece was constructed like a mosaic. Sound elements were combined through splicing and multi-track recording techniques.
