About this work:
The haiku is a Japanese poetic form composed of seventeen syllables. Four of the haiku here are by American poets Anne Rutherford ("The Old Clock;" "Drifting into Sleep;" The Pearl of Great Price") and Hilda Aarons ("Voices of the Young"). The fifth ("A Dewdrop") is by the Japanese poet Issa. This composition was selected for an award by the Texas Music Educators' Association in 1974 and was performed at their convention that year. I.
