About this work:
i. Prayer (Chungmori Changdan) ii. Emergence iii. Nongak for solo piano, commissioned by Hyun-mi Cho to accompany a dance depicting the traditional story of the bear who becomes a woman and gives birth to the Korean people. The first movement involves rhythmic structures and melodic fragments characteristic of Korean sanjo, and the third movement is inspired by nongak, a Korean farmer's dance music popularized by the drum ensemble SamulNori.
