The Church of the World

Steve Layton

About this work:
For a very large orchestra of three separate bodies of strings, brass, and pitched percussion. The architecture is enormous; four large chambers and a number of gates within and between, and a space that soars and expands in an air full of light. But the Church of the World must surely suffer as well as celebrate. The music makes extensive use of slow, massed string glissandos, so that "cadences" instead almost become overlapping "trajectories".
