Kleos ( Iannis Xenakis in memoriam )

Steve Layton

About this work:
For very large orchestra. In memory of the great composer Iannis Xenakis (1922-2001). His music and ideas have been with me for as long as I wanted to be a composer. "Kleos" is Homer's greek; it means "glory; often implying fame and immortality (in the memory of others), achieved as a result of one's time (acts of excellence meriting honor)." It was important to me that I sketch the whole of this work on the day of Xenakis' death; for all of the talk of mathematic and stochastic processes, Xenakis' music even more shows an even stronger and willful, almost wild, intuition. The rule is always MAN.
