Three Fun Fables
Daniel Dorff
About this work:
Commissioned for 52 performances by the Minnesota Orchestra's Kinder Konzerts, Three Fun Fables is available for Narrator with Mixed Octet, or with Orchestra. The last fable, "The Tortoise and the Hare" is also available separately.
1) "The Fox and the Crow" features fluttertongue muted trumpet as the snarly fox, and a high contrabass as the crow. 2) "The Dog and His Reflection" features Trombone as the slurpy dog, and Violin with Harp and light percussion as his reflection.
3) "The Tortoise and the Hare" features slow low contrabassoon and brisk jumpy clarinet portraying the title roles.
Each movement uses humor and colorful instrumentation to illustrate contrast and variations while telling the story with humor and sparkle.
This work has been very successful with adults as well, due to the multi-meaning stories of Aesop and a musical approach which appeals to children and adults in different ways.
Wolfgang Sawallisch had the orchestral version commissioned and he conducted the orchestral premiere with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
On rental from MMB Music Inc (800-543-3771).
