The Tortoise and the Hare
Daniel Dorff
About this work:
Commissioned for 52 performances by the Minnesota Orchestra's Kinder Konzerts, Three Fun Fables is available for Narrator with Mixed Octet, or with Orchestra. The last fable, "The Tortoise and the Hare" is also available separately, featuring slow low contrabassoon and brisk jumpy clarinet portraying the title roles.
The music uses humor and colorful instrumentation to illustrate contrast and variations.
This work has been very successful with adults as well, due to the multi-meaning stories of Aesop and a musical approach which appeals to children and adults in different ways.
"The Tortoise and the Hare" has been programmed by many Major orchestras as well as regional and volunteer orchestras.
