Trio: Other Selves

Victoria Bond

About this work:
Premiere: August 21, 1979 Lennox, Massachusetts Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival; choreographer Lynne Taylor-Corbett Recording: GEGA Commentary: Commissioned by The Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival , this ballet is based on a series of sculptures by Marjorie Michael entitled, A Woman's Journey. These portray vignettes of ordinary scenes from a woman's life in an abstract and mythic way. The music is organized as a theme and 7 variations, based on a Bach-like architectural design. Each instrument is given a solo movement and a duet, and these are interspersed with the full trio ensemble, each solo featuring a different aspect of the individual in relationship to the group. Review: "A bravura piece, romantic in impulse but contemporary in its tonal language.. With challenging unaccompanied solos for each instrument." --The Atlanta Journal Theodore Presser Company Attention: Judith Ilika 588 North Gulph Road King of Prussia, PA 19406 Tel: (610) 525-3636 ext. 209 jilika@presser.com
