About this work:
"Chiaroscuro" was written for clarinet virtuoso and exponent of new music, Esther Lamneck of New York. The title comes from the Italian for "light - dark" and refers to the various kinds of shading and contrast featured in the work. The last movement is a set of variations on a made-up "Chinese" tune.
