Blossoms And A Breeze

Kevin McCarter

About this work:

Written in mid- to late spring, this piece absorbed some of the character and color of the season. It opens with the calm sweetness of a mild morning. Later sections become more active. The image of blossoms ruffled by a gentle breeze fits several passages; one section implies a steadier, stronger wind. The music is through-composed, with figures that recur and vary as they mingle with newly invented material. A number of melodic figures grow directly from the major second and minor third of the first chord, and additional figures evolve by expansion or contraction of the intervals.
