Chamber Symphony
Kevin McCarter
About this work:
Three movements of roughly equal length. The first contrasts melodic and ostinato figures. The second opens with quietly undulating strings; melodic phrases in the woodwinds come to the foreground later and lead to a middle section built on a quotation from Machaut's "Rose, Liz, Printemps." A short phrase for solo trumpet opens the third movement and establishes its prevailing tone of lyrical strength.
