About this work:
Sanddef ("Santhev"), for solo bass clarinet, was written in April of 1989 for bass clarinetest Michael Lowenstern as a complement to Morfran, also for solo bass clarinet. Sanddef Pryd Angel, for whom the piece is named, is a medieval Welsh character. He is mentioned (directly after Morfran) in the tale Calhwch and Olwen as a member of King Arthur's court.
