Event Horizon

Karen Amrhein

About this work:
"Event Horizon" opens with an evocative Prelude, followed by a more animated depiction of "Night." The third movement is a musical depiction of a journey through a black hole, and was inspired by the book "Black Holes and Warped Space-Time". It is a highly dissonant, though lyrical (tonal / modal) piece with a brisk tempo and rapidly shifting meters. The entire work has been likened to the Copland "Clarinet Concerto."
