Serenade

Stan Grill

About this work:
SERENADE was composed in memory of a good friend, Behrooz Khorramian, who died too young. The piece was designed to help me to remember Behrooz, representing different aspects of his complex and beautiful nature. The flute was used to evoke his Iranian heritage. The repeated main theme, developed in various guises, but always returning, represents his focused, scientific attention which could not be diverted. The slow rhapsodic middle section evokes his loving, warm character. Gradually, the accompaniment becomes more ethereal, until, at the end, it fades away.
