An Evil Wind...

About this work:
Hear this piece at http://www.davidheuser.com/evilwind.htm An Evil Wind... was written from February to April 1991. All of the music comes from one sound source, creating a strong, unifying sound-relationship throughout. On the other hand, enough manipulation procedures were used to ensure a sufficient variety of material. Besides using standard digital effects and filters, much of the manipulation was done on the Roland S-550 sampler. The entire composition was accomplished on a Macintosh computer using Sound Designer, a two-channel digital editing program. Here, too, many manipulation procedures were performed. Using Sound Designer was extremely liberating because I was able to compose in the studio much like I do when writing acoustic music. At the same time I was able to maintain the extreme control over the material which electronic music allows. An Evil Wind... is dedicated to David Rogers, without whom I would not have been able to do any of this. It was created at the Center for Electronic and Computer Music at Indiana University.
