Circadia

Adrienne Albert

About this work:
Commissioned by bassoonist, Carolyn Beck, "Circadia". a sonata in three movements for bassoon and piano, refers to tthe daily pulse and cycle of activities observed in many living organisms. The first movement, "Cycles" is a wild and disjointed chase between the instruments. A triplet motif has the instruments chasing and being chased by one another. The second movement, "Nightfall", is a lyrical and beautifully reflective brooding piece. The last movement, "Spring Ahead" (which refers to the change to daylight savings time) is a ray of hope in which the instruments play musical tricks on one another. Each movement may be performed separately.
