About this work:
A Brooding, lyrical homage to the darker places in each of us, "Winter Solace" is meant to be played on the Alto Saxophone whose breathy, sensual voice seems perfect for the moodiness of the melody and interweaving of the harmonies which never go where you think they will go. Filled with clashing accidentals and mysterious tonal colors, this is a wonderful piece for an instrument that is underused and generally misunderstood in the "classical" world. Doug Masek has recorded this work on his newest CD for Centaur Records, Saxophone Alternative.
