Jumbled Mirrors
Bruce J. Taub
About this work:
Jumbled Mirrors for Saxophone Quartet was completed in the fall of 1992. The title is taken from a line in the novel "The House of the Spirits" by Isabel Allende who often uses images involving mirrors and kaleidoscopes (sometimes broken or 'jumbled') in her novels and stories. As the title suggests, the four saxophones often 'mirror' one another in many different ways during the course of the piece. Some of the musical material is related to my previous composition, Reflections which is for piano trio. Jumbled Mirrors is in two parts; an extended fast movement followed by a relatively short, slow movement (played without pause) that acts as a kind of coda. It was premiered by Sax 4th Avenue at the New Music and Art Festival, Bowling Green State University (Ohio). Jumbled Mirrors is published by C.F. Peters Corporation.
