Solon the Dreamer

Cynthia Sternau

About this work:
Solon, a shepherd in the ancient world, takes shelter from a storm in a cave high in the mountains. He falls asleep and wakes up on the dream plain, where a spirit guide takes him through a gate to witness the heart of the universe and councils him on his destiny. Solon the Dreamer finds a “frame” in the story of Epimenides, one of the mysterious seven sages of ancient Greece, a shepherd and lyric poet who fell asleep in a cave and awoke forty-seven (or, perhaps, fifty-eight) years later, to an almost unrecognizable world. Solon the Dreamer is the third opera in the trilogy A World Out of Time (Council of the Dead, The Challenge, Solon the Dreamer).
