On the Road to Emmaus

Edward P. Mascari

About this work:
This piece was composed in 1982 in the form of a lead sheet for jazz piano. It is an instrumental "tone painting" of the story found in the 24th chapter of the Gospel according to St. Luke. The music is designed to characterize the mood of the events described in this passage rather than being a setting of the text. The present arrangement (made in 2002) reflects the flavor of the original. However, all of the musical ideas are now notated.
