This work was composed in response to the events of 9/11 and premiered November 9, 2001 by Karine Bagdasarian on a Just In Time Composers and Players concert, Follen Church, Lexington, MA.
Wordless Prayer is a lament written in remembrance of the victims of September 11, 2001. Its g-minor melody overlaps and sustains in the right hand and Eb major-7th chords are poignant sonorities. A middle section in Bb major conveys hope amidst this lament of resignation and acceptance. If you omit the dedication, the music is appropriate for a contemplative moment in a worship service or ceremony.
