Seven Statements in 3/4 Time

Ernesto P. Pellegrini

About this work:
First Performance: April 24, 1967. The New Orleans Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, Werner Torkanowsky, Conductor, in a Concert of New Music, made possible through a grant from The Rockefeller Foundation. The work, expressed in seven different and contrasting moods, attempts to make the most of the 34 time element. The entire work, though, stems from a (014) cell which, heard at the beginning, becomes the source for the rest of the work. The traditional 34 tempo is experienced only in the fifth statement in a “quasi tempo di mazurka” rendition. The brief Coda section is basically reminiscent of the opening and thus exploits the initial cell to its climactic conclusion.
