Preludio, Intermezzo and Finale

Ernesto P. Pellegrini

About this work:
It was made possible by a 1989 Ball State University Summer Creative Arts Grant. In three contrasting movements, the work places the serene second movement (based on a simple Neapolitan folk lullaby: “Ninna nanna”) in the middle of the two outer intensive movements. The first one is free in spirit and is done with what almost appears to be improvisation. The last movement, rhythmically driven throughout, makes references to Shostakovich (the Russian composer) not only stylistically, but also, by briefly citing toward the end of the work, the well known tune from The Golden Age Polka. This work, originally written for the CRS group, has been issued as a CD on CRS label
