Divertimento a sette

Ernesto P. Pellegrini

About this work:

The work was composed for Cleve Scott and the Ensemble for New Music of Ball State University (Muncie, IN). After a brief introductory statement which presents the basic materials of the work, the main section of the work takes place. This section is most extensive and highly developmental in character. Ultimately it leads back to a recapitulation-coda section which concludes with reminiscences of the opening introductory statement. As the title indicates, in a literal sense, it is a piece for amusement, and it is to be performed exactly with that in mind - - that is, as a piece for seven instruments which are timbrally different and yet which are interacting with one another texturally in a fun making way. This work was chosen as one of the winners of the League-ISCM National Composers Competition in 1980 with a performance of the work in New York by the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble.
