The Last Section
Tayloe Harding
About this work:
It features a complex pattern of rhythmic changes to a simple melodic fragment and its basic harmonic implications and melodic extensions. The form of the piece is suggested by these various patterns. Included is an "open chorus" section for improvised solos. Though the work is in no way jazz, this chorus section is notated with chord changes. Soloists may or may not elect to link their improvisations with these suggested changes. And though solos are written in certain parts, the solos can be played by any of the instruments.
The name of the work derives from the fact that this open section was the last composed.
