Song for the Magic of the Uniting Souls
Tayloe Harding
About this work:
Song for the Magic of the Uniting Souls (1992) was commissioned by the outstanding Atlanta new music ensemble, THAMYRIS in the spring of 1992. It was premiered at Spivey Hall, Morrow, GA on July 19, 1992 by THAMYRIS for their Third Annual Premier Party, where the scores for small works they had commissioned were performed and then auctioned off to patrons of the ensemble.
The work is basically a instrumentated piano improvisation, where sections of a lyrical, song-like melody and its transmutation are adjacent to sections of a re-occurring percussive piano pattern. The improvisation was inspired by, and gets its title from, a particularly significant time in the spiritual life of the composer.
