About this work:
Subtitled “Trois petites filles” and inspired by daughters of friends. The work represents musical portraits of the three young girls, and each movement is named for one of the girls who were 12, 8, and 6, respectively, at the time of composition.

Movements:

1. Allegretto: Rosemarie, “toujours active, jamais passive” (“always active, never passive”)
2. Andante (Nocturne): Brigid, “elle marche pareille en beauté, à la nuit” (“she walks in beauty, like the night”)
3. Allegro: Martina, “quand elle rit, le monde s’embrase” (“when she laughs, the world is set ablaze”)
