About this work:
A work for Cello and Voice. Korean Poem/So, Chung ju English Trans: Brother Anthony of Taize-An Sonjae.
This work is a reflection of singing with translations. Both those utilized by audience members in program notes, while the performer sings in a language foreign to most of the audience: and the practice of performing works translated into other languages while utilziing the original melody. This work does away with all of that since both the original and the target language are set to music. However, it does not stop there. The singer is asked to both perform through the original language as well as the target langauge. Thus utilizing the bi-lingual experience of having two different voices expressing a single concetp from different perspectives, cultures, and emotional centers.
