About this work:
A dramatic, virtuosic piece. An insistent ostinato opens the piece, followed by col legno echoes. In the middle of the piece, double-stops slide microtonally in 5/8 and 7/8 rhythms reminiscent of Eastern European folk music. A cantabile section has widely spaced grace notes that decorate a wide-ranging melodic line. In the coda, the ostinato returns, more introspectively and delicately.
