String Quartet #1, Inamoria

Jack W. Stamps

About this work:
This piece was written especially for the Tosca String Quartet. It has 2 layers of meaning within it. On the surface, it tells the story of how I first came to meet the quartet (including the tequila shot built into the score between the Introduction and the Intoxicantabile). Beyond the surface, it was a work of pure therapy for me as I was struggling to deal with my parents divorce. The male and female computer voices are meant to symbolize this struggle and how the age of the internet has served to distance us more than ever. The 6-note motive that makes up the introduction is woven into the rest of the piece in various contexts, voices and registers. The minuet and trio (Inamoria) is loosely based on a pop song I penned years ago. The Incantation and Breakdance explores pop drumming patterns and variations on a quickly improved line
