George Spicka

About this work:
The 6th movement of the "St. Petersburg Suite'" this is an extended 124 measure form, with intro and tag. [A][B][C][D][E][F][G][H]. It was priemered at Baltimore's 2002 "VIVAT St. Petersburg" Festival, at the Creative Alliance. July 17, 1918. Czar Nicholas II, his wife Empress Alexandra, their five children, their doctor and three attendants were herded into the cellar of a house in Yekaterinburg. A firing squad burst into the room and opened fire. Bayonets were used to finish them off. The fast scherzo tempo, and alternating five and two measure phrases has made this the most difficult piece for the “jazz” trio.
