My Unexpected Trip To Ancient Luxor

George Spicka

About this work:
8 Movements total, representing my awakening one morning to the sound of trumpets, only to discover that I'd somehow been transported to the city of ancient Luxor. The king was just enterering the square with full pomp and majesty, fresh from a long but fruitful journey to neighboring lands. The teeming rabble of townspeople, slaves, merchants and harlots filled the area. Suddenly, a child was presented to the King. Apparently, the Queen had been "busy" while he was away for those long months. Accusations filled the air ... a scape goat must be found! The courtesans began to speak. Fingers were pointed. They were all directed towards ME! I was seized at once! The King's viziers were summoned, to determine my fate. In just a couple of minutes, it was over. The headsman was summoned. I was forced to kneel. The assembled rabble grew quiet. I heard the swish of metal rushing overhead! I awoke with a start. It was all a dream! ... or was it? I was lying at the edge of a vast desert. My journey had only just begun!
