Berkshires

Frederic Trobaugh

About this work:
The MP3 file is an excerpt. Berkshires was composed in two weeks in the fall of 1997. Its large-scale form contrasts slower chorale textures against faster, more rhythmic sections. The faster sections consist of a rhythmic and constantly moving foundation that supports the long, intertwining melodic lines floating above. The lyrical quality of the piece’s slow sections and the gently undulating movement of the fast ones remind me of the vistas of Western Massachusetts.
